Notes on the council’s figures
  • 2025 and 2026: All applicants received a place at both sites.
  • 2023 and 2024: West Norwood site: all applicants received a place.
  • 2023 and 2024: Places at the Streatham site ran out by walking distance, which we can't measure, so the year isn't judged for families on distance.

Admission criteria at Julian's School

If more children apply than there are places, the 2026 rules offer places in this order.

  1. Looked-after and previously looked-after children (including children adopted from state care outside England).
  2. Children with a brother or sister (living at the same address) at the school who will still be on roll when they start.
  3. Children with exceptional medical and/or social reasons for this school, with evidence from at least two registered professionals.
  4. Children of staff employed by Julian's for at least 0.6 of full time and for at least 2 years.
  5. Other children, by the shortest walking route lit by street lighting from the home to the school entrance in Leigham Court Road (Streatham site) or Wolfington Road (West Norwood site). The address is measured to both sites and the school decides at which site to offer a place. We can't measure walking routes, so a year whose places ran out by walking distance isn't judged.

Where a year’s rules are missing from our data, we use the nearest year’s.

Questions about Julian's School

How far away do you need to live to get into Julian's School?

In 2025 and 2026, everyone who applied was offered a place here or at a school they ranked higher. We don’t have a usable distance figure for 2023 and 2024. Cut-offs move each year with the number of applicants and siblings, so treat these as a guide to past years, not a promise.

Do siblings get priority at Julian's School?

Yes. Under the 2026 admission rules, children with a brother or sister at the school come second in the order of priority, after looked-after and previously looked-after children. In 2024, 28 of the 150 places went to siblings. Check the school’s admission arrangements for who counts as a sibling.

Has everyone who applied to Julian's School been offered a place in past years?

In 2025 and 2026, yes: everyone who applied to Julian's School was offered a place here or at a school they ranked higher. In 2023 and 2024, places ran out, so not everyone was offered a place.

How many applications does Julian's School get?

In 2026, Julian's School received 114 applications for 150 Reception places: about 0.8 applications for each place, counting all six preferences. Between 2023 and 2026, applications ranged from 114 to 518 a year. Families name several schools, so one child can count as an application at more than one school.

Is Julian's School oversubscribed?

Not in 2026: everyone who applied was offered a place at Julian's School or at a school they ranked higher. It had 114 applications for 150 places, counting every preference families named.
