Admission criteria at The Alton School

If more children apply than there are places, the 2026 rules offer places in this order.

  1. Looked-after children and previously looked-after children (adopted or under a child arrangements or special guardianship order), including those adopted from state care outside England.
  2. Children with a professionally supported exceptional medical or social need for a place at this school, as decided by the trust. Evidence is needed by the closing date.
  3. Children with a brother or sister in Years R to 6 at the school on the date of admission (full, or step/half living at the same address). Nursery siblings do not count.
  4. Children of staff employed at the school for two or more years when applying, or recruited to a vacant post with a demonstrable skill shortage.
  5. Other children, nearest first, by straight-line distance from home to the centre of the school site, measured by Wandsworth Council's GIS. Equal distances decided at random.
